Hey Man! We're Putting the Band Back Together!

Virginia Beach 1985(L-R) Vickie, Jack, David and Cliff
Started humming a song from 1985. Ain't it funny how the night moves, when you just don't seem to have as much to lose. Strange how the night moves. This trip was supposed to bring the "Band" back together. It was supposed to retrace the epic journey of four friends on a bicycle trip from Atlanta Georgia to Washington DC by Train, DC to Virginia Beach VA by Greyhound Bus and Virginia Beach thru the Outer Banks by bicycle and ferry - ultimately ending up in Myrtle Beach SC. Instead, it is being commemorated by two of the four original members via different - yet just as epic - journey. On Sunday May 7 2017, at Fort Clinch State Park, we will begin a 548 mile journey that pretty much follows legendary Highway A1A from the Georgia/Florida border all the way down the east coast of Florida eventually to Mile 0 in the Florida Keys. We, as in me, Cliff Goodlet, and my cousin Jack Goodlet. I am soon to be 67 and Jack will soon be 68. I've got a hernia in "waiting" (waiting till we get back to be repaired) and kidneys brimming with stones. Jack has a bum hip and is prone to "sore-ass syndrome" on long bicycle trips. But, what we lack in physical prowess is made up for with modern technology. Our steeds from yester-years have been replaced by electronic stallions. Jack will be on a  Platinum Interceptor Premium Electric Cruiser Bike (sounds impressive) and mine will be the less glamourous but equally effective Salsa Marrakesh Touring bike retrofitted with a Bionx D 500 DV kit. We will be blogging at this site each day for the entire 15 days it will take us to get to Mile Marker 0 in the Keys. We may not make it. The hernia may pop, the hip may stop, the stones might stymie -  but at least we are trying... Hey man! We're putting the band back together! Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero!
