Day 4 - Wed May 10

Today's ride from Wilbur-By-The-Sea (S Daytona Beach) to Titusville is 49 miles. Most of today's ride will be inland, away from the beaches and sea. The route is dictated by the need to avoid the beautiful but desolate Canaveral National Seashore as well as the inaccessible Kennedy Space Center.  Canaveral National Seashore was created on January 3, 1975, by an act of Congress. This 25 miles of pristine Atlantic Ocean beach, dunes and Mosquito Lagoon is the longest expanse of undeveloped land along the East Coast of Florida and as a federally protected area will remain primarily as it is today. Kennedy Space Center was for two generations the public face of a space program that ended when the shuttle Atlantis touched down for the last time on July 21, 2011. Thousands of NASA employees lost their jobs, Kennedy was essentially mothballed and Space Coast became a shadow of itself. At mile 41, we will pick a 1.5 mile section of the The East Central Regional Rail Trail which occupies an abandoned rail corridor. Plan to stay at the Holiday Inn Titusville - 4715 Helen Hauser Blvd, Titusville, FL 32780 - (321) 383-0200
