Day 6 - Friday May 12

Today's ride takes us 32.4 miles from Melbourne Beach to  Vero Beach. We ate so much Cuban food last night, we need a short ride today. If you are ever near Melbourne, be sure to eat at the Cuban Island Restaurant. Fantastic! This will be our first "Island" day. The entire ride will be on barrier islands. At mile 17.3 we will pick up the Route A1A Trail. The Route A1A Trail (actually just a fat sidewalk) runs primarily along  the west side of Route A1A in Indian River County, FL, linking the barrier islands off the coast of Vero Beach. It is a classic "side-by" path but I guess it beats the white line. We will have this giant sidewalk all day long. There are numerous driveway and road crossings, and in some spots the trail (sidewalk) gets narrow, so we will have to use caution. Sand on the trail and wind are other factors to watch out for. Piper Aircraft, Inc., is a manufacturer of general aviation aircraft, located at the Vero Beach Municipal Airport in Vero Beach and owned since 2009 by the Government of Brunei. Now that's weird. When Baylor School's Roscoe Tanner isn't in jail, he lives in Vero Beach. Plan to stay at Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Vero Beach-Oceanside - 3384 Ocean Dr, Vero Beach, FL 32963 - (772) 231-2300 xx
